Time Travelling

Time Travelling

Hate to admit this but I slept surprisingly well in what could have been the worst night of my life being trapped in a capsule. But I've had worse nights sleep in my own bed.

The alarm also went off at my favorite time: 5:45. Love having to get up early. Means I sleep through the night. Jannis reheated tortilla in the futuristic microwave and I entertained myself by retrieving toothpics from an overly ambitious little toothpick dispenser.

We went back to the present (checked out of the hotel (ha, ha)) and after I made us wait for the bus on the wrong side of the road for a scary amount of time we were on the bus to the airport by 6:48. Already mentally detached from wherever we had just been and not yet fully attached to where we were going. Luggage drop-off was quick (19.5/25 kg thank you very much), security even quicker.

My coffee cost 4,60€, which felt illegal but inevitable and the universe compensated by placing the sweetest poodle directly across from us in the waiting area.

At 9:55 we left for Lanzarote. 2 hours later it was 11:05 and we landed. I prefer this sort of time travelling. The airport is tiny and Jannis learned to walk on these very grounds so approximately 2 minutes later we were out and on the 161 bus to Seaside Los Jameos, which would be our stomping ground for the next nine days. The hotel sits right by Los Pocillos Beach and operates on a scale where everything you didn’t know you needed is already accounted for: pools (multiple), buffets (multiple), saunas (multiple), bars (multiple), giant chess sets (yes, also multiple), beaches (multiple), the sea (only one). The room wasn’t ready yet when we arrived, so we had coffee by the pool and waited without really waiting which involved a round of giant chess at one of the giant chess sets and observing grandmas ordering their 2nd glass of wine within 20 minutes (as they should).

Then the room was ready. 3103. Balcony. Pool. Ocean. Side note: everyone here knows Jannis and he's greeted with hola amigo. I'm waiting for some to roll out a red carpet and to get out the banana tree leaves.

At around 2pm, we tested the buffets (have I mentioned that there's multiple). Starter, main, dessert — a complete run. You start inside which the salads and lighter things and return to your table. Once you’ve inhaled the best tasting leave of your life you make your way out. There you find veggies, stews, pastas, pizzas, fish, burger, meats, sweet potato fries (!) Everything being prepared right in front of your huuungry eyes (🎵). Sweet potato fries and hummus were immediate standouts, while the stuffed vine leaf was only interesting. The buffet here isn’t just food; it’s structure. You arrive hungry, you leave full, and the day rearranges itself around that.

Later, we set up by the pool, towels becoming blankets as it was a little windy (lil windy - performing live at the pool bar today 4pm) and spanish books were read. Jannis ordered something involving ginger, honey, and tequila, which sounds like a british way of curing a cold and I went for a passion spritz that spritzed. At some point we had carajillos at the bar, and walked back to the room buzzing.

In the evening we went to the spa, mostly because it was there. The steam room was fine. Not warm enough for me as 45 degrees are a casual summers day. The humidity made it hard to breath tho and for that sort of climate I was missing a couple of tarzans, vines and coconuts. The Finnish sauna on the other hand was cozy warm. I wasn't sweating but also didn't feel the need to put on a layer of clothes which was a welcome change. The ice bath followed because I saw influencers do that and they seem to have a point.

We walked back wrapped in bathrobes, quiet and mildly proud, like we had completed a routine correctly.

After a quick shower it was time to eat. Inside, outside, seconds, desert. The theme of that day was the maldives/ India and I don't think there is a better start to a holiday than 7 different curries.

Afterwards we checked out the belingo bar where a rather random mix of 4 people imitated ABBA in an okayish enough way that made us stay for one drink.

Back in the room we watched la que se avecina on the giant tv and slept in a bed thats neither a capsule nor has springs sticking out the matress.
